First of all, I think that one language spoken worldwide would considerably contribute to better international relations because it would probably be easier to understand the others. Nowadays, if we travel abroad without fluent knowledge of a language we have to rely on books and a great number of dictionaries. In many cases we are too shy to start a conversation because we are afraid that people might not get our drift ore we are ashamed of our accents. It also happens we find it too easy to use the simplest words just to get understood, so we try to speak sophisticated language which often leads to confusion and misunderstanding. That is, in my opinion, the main reason that one language would help significantly these who have problems with learning languages or are afraid of taking the floor because of poor vocabulary.
Another important problem which is a deal of concern for translators is that on e simply cannot translate some words from one language into another because the thing does not exist in translators language. Every time it involves presenting culture to the readers, so that they could imagine what the thing (most often a plant or an animal) is. One language could possibly eliminate such problems.
On the other hand, I am not sure if human beings could be able to communicate in one language, because the culture in different countries varies at a huge scale. We would probably have to memorize too many words connected with cultures which are completely different from ours. I believe this would be impossible, that is why we would have to use dictionaries on regular basis and the idea of simple understanding would not be sure. That is why, to sum it all up, it is good as the things stand now and we can just learn languages and cultural contexts which are of interest to us.
